Adoption process
There is the preliminary step in adopting one of their canine orphans. Need to know that they have been adopting out animals for some years and have found it necessary to lay out the guidelines, in order to determine which dog will be best for you.
The following is going to give you an idea of what they expect in their potential adopters:
- Their adoption fee is $300.00. For your adoption fee, the dog is going to be spayed, micro-chipped, fully vaccinated, heartworm free and get a free introductory training (via Skype or phone).
- All the dogs are neutered. You do not ask them for an altered dog.
- They are hesitant to adopt out their adult dogs into homes where there are existing small dogs. It is not something they recommend although they have had some successful adoptions in this capacity.
- If you have a cat(s) in your home and you want to adopt a dog from them, unfortunately, they no longer feel comfortable doing these adoptions with their adult dogs. They do not have the proper set up for their dogs to live with a cat to make sure the compatibility of the dogs.
- They do not recommend adopting a female Pitbull with another female Pitbull.
- If you do have an existing dog, you may be asked to bring him/her up to their facility to meet your potential new adopted dog.
- If you live in an apartment, townhouse, condo, or homeowners association complex, please verify with the management that you are allowed to have a Pitbull and not only any type of dog. Now, lots of insurance companies are denying homeowners' insurance companies to rent to people with pitbull dogs.
- They will not adopt their dog to you, if your plans are to make it a service dog. Lots of people fraudulently get service dog vests or fake service dog trainers. They do not want their dog put into a condition that he/she may not be qualified for.
- State Restrictions – They are no longer able to adopt any dogs out to the state of Colorado due to their state restrictions on bringing dogs in from out of state.
Out of State Adoption Requirements

- Tia Torres was a dog trainer for the City of Los Angeles Animal Services for 11 years.
- Villalobos Rescue Center began employing parolees in 2006s.
- Villalobos Rescue Center relocated to Louisiana in 2011 because of economic reasons and also some changes in the state laws.
- Now in Louisiana, VRC has a location in the city of New Orleans and in the rural or country environment of Assumption Parish.
- Because of the overwhelming need to help other dogs, now VRC has become an all-breed rescue with the main focus still being on Pit Bulls.
- Now, they are in the South, they have to deal with heartworm disease. This means that 99 percent of the dogs they take in, enter their facility with this pre-existing condition.
