Volunteering with Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC)
Before you make plans to be a Volunteer, there are some things that you have to consider. Because their facilities and organization is connected to a TV show on Discovery, the public attention they receive can be overwhelming. For this reason, they are strict about respecting their workplace and also the privacy and safety of their dogs and staff. Now, all of their programs have to be monitored by one of their regular VRC staff. So again, they ask that you respect their guidelines and rules when visiting their house.
At New Orleans, the only volunteer program they have available at this time is their dog walking. Conducted at the location which you see on our TV show, they conduct group walks around the neighboring area. Or it is able to be something as simple as sitting down and hanging out with selected dogs. They conduct these walks at three different times of the day. You have to come 5 minutes before the scheduled walks so that you are able to fill out volunteer paperwork. Depending on how many people come, please determine the amount of time you are going to be walking dogs. The times are 8:00 am, 1:00 pm. , 4:00 pm, and their final walk of the day at 8:00 pm. They walk the dogs 7 days/nights a week.
Remember to wear good walking shoes, and they do these walks; rain or. Also, they cannot allow the children under the age of 5 years to attend the walking program. There are too many big dogs out at one time, and it is too much of a risk that a little dog will get knocked to the ground by an overly zealous pooch. Aside from that, no carrying children in strollers is allowed on walks. In addition, you do not need an appointment to come and become a volunteer to walk dogs. You are able to fill out the necessary paperwork during a quick orientation when you arrive. Their lead dog walker Kyle is going to be there to take charge and get you started.
